Each cottage has a spacious, open plan living area leads onto a sundeck. The bedroom has a queen-sized bed and there is an antique cast iron Victorian tub and shower in the en-suite bathroom. A wooden ladder from the living area leads up to a loft with two single beds. It is ideal for the children. The kitchen is equipped with a two plate hob, fridge, and microwave.

Invite Bridesdale Robin Hood to your wedding. Finely dressing in his best, he will elegantly escort you to your ceremony. Breathe in the fresh air and pause to savour the moment as you roll gently in the beautiful French Victoria Carriage. Celebrate being Mr & Mrs for a while, just the two of you, as Robin leads you to your wedding venue and into your new life together. Share a rose with him and give him a cuddle as you pose for your photos, he does love the camera. Start your journey together differently with Robin and the Crab Apple Carriage.

Quintessentially country, the Crab Apple Chapel has large feature windows allowing the warm glowing sun and natural surrounds of forest and farmlands to form a glorious backdrop. Multi-denominational, your own pastor will be welcomed and the chapel seats up to 138 people on church pews. The chapel is set in a picturesque garden with rolling lawns. This has appealed to several bridal couples for their post-ceremony reception. It’s ideal for those looking for a less formal event, a place in which they can express their own style whether it be high tea or a picnic. This space is lovely for socialising and taking photos. There is no additional charge for the use of the grounds, however, it’s use is weather dependant.

Crab Apple

Lara Kirsten in concert at Crab Apple Chapel!

After a successful countrywide tour of her program The Resonating Pulse, Midlands-based pianist Lara Kirsten brings a solo piano recital Piano in Flight to The Dargle with music that will literally be flying off the piano keys. The audience will be treated to dazzling and invigorating music from Italy, Germany, Spain, Brittany, America and Hungary.

The common feature in the pieces is their swift and flighty finger motion. All the composers who feature in this program have been well-known composers and performing pianists in their day and have gifted the world some brilliantly flashy music.

To lead in the program will be the virtuosic Piano Sonata in D minor K 141 by the Italian Domenico Scarlatti – the scintillating repeated notes in the right hand will have both pianist and audience gasping for breath! Following this, the program will be swooping over Germany with the famous and exuberant Impromptu in E flat by Franz Schubert. Piano in flight will not be complete without the enticing music from Spain – on offer will be the Prelude and Seguidillas by Isaac Albeniz. Then the program flies to Brittany with the music of Yann Tiersen. This composer is still alive and performing and is renowned for his film music. Many of his pieces are dreamy and evocative compositions. For this program, Lara has chosen two of his more rapidly-flowing pieces to keep the flying spirit alive – Penn ar Lann and Rue des Cascades. We whizz to America with the sassy jazz Preludes by the American composer George Gershwin. The whirlwind of a Toccata by Jenö Takács will conclude all this exuberant flight of notes. The formal program will be interspersed by piano improvisations and poetry on the theme of the flight.

Lara Kirsten is a pianist and performance poet. For the last six years, Lara has been based in the Midlands of KwaZulu-Natal from where she travels with her concert tours. Lara’s poetry and creative projects can be viewed on her blog at

Crab Apple

We are so looking forward to welcoming fellow garden enthusiasts to our home as part of Open Gardens of South Africa on 3-4 November, we’d love to see you!

Crab Apple is situated at the end of an Albertine Rose lined country lane on the edge of an extensive Yellowwood forest. This informal east facing garden is characterised by its numerous roses including a lovely selection of David Austin roses. Clivia’s occur here naturally and feature prominently along with Arums which line the stream. The garden is often described by visitors in terms like “peace, serenity and harmony”.

Why not make a weekend of it? We’d love to have you to stay!
